Scoring and Prizes

The maximum number of points are distributed as follows:

Project development:

Up to 15 points.

Technical challenge:

Up to 120 points.

Server map:

Up to 15 points

Overal performance:

Up to 40 points.

Arena fight (only for finals):

-20 to 20 points.

Project development

For the monthly evaluation, specifically the report, multimedia file and the GitHub repo organisation, an evaluation of 0 to 10 will be given.

As the 5 project statuses are done, an average will be made, and then this average translated to 0-15 points.

Technical challenge

Each collected dot has 3 points in value, but the following limitations are to be considered:

  • Each checkpoint can be “taken” only once.

  • To consider a checkpoint as valid, the car must pass through the area and be within regulation (can’t go straight line for the point).

  • The car can’t be moved from one place to another.

  • there will be 15 extra points for the random starting point

While the penalties are given as follows:

Name

Description

Penalty value

Fatal Collision

An action that in real life could be considered as fatal to any member of traffic:

  • Competitor car hits another car,

  • Competitor car hits a pedestrian,

  • Competitor car needs manual repositioning,

  • Competitor car does not stop for pedestrian,

2.5

Lane adherance Violation

Incorrect lane usage:

  • Wrong side driving,

  • Outside road driving but coming back alone,

  • Incorrect use of highway,

  • Failing to navigate roundabout correctly,

2.0

Non-compliance with road signalling

Violations related to traffic signs or lights(described in track section):

  • Ignoring traffic light color,

  • Failing to stop at stop,

  • Failing to go at priority,

  • Not parking after park sign,

  • etc.

1.5

Maneuver fail

Initiating a maneuver where it’s not supposed to or any maneuver not finalized correctly:

  • Incorrect or incomplete parking,

  • Hit on overtaking comeback,

Server map

During the technical run, each team must send data to the traffic communication server. We will generate a history map with this data, and, based on the similarity with the actual behaviour of the vehicle (actual positions, obstacles notifications, speeds), the technical staff will give out a score ranging from 0 to 15.

Overall performance

This is a subjective evaluation made by the jury based on their overall impression of the vehicle during the presentation and the final run. It is not a strict checklist but a reflection of how complete, reliable, and convincing the system feels.

Aspects the jury may consider:

  • General vehicle behavior during the run

Does it drive smoothly? Respect traffic rules? React well to obstacles?

→ This gives a gut feeling of how stable and reliable the car is — and how likely one would trust being a passenger in it.

  • Perceived robustness

Does the vehicle recover from errors or get stuck?

→ Does it seem capable of handling more than the ideal case, or does it feel overfit to this specific track?

  • Cohesion of the system

Do hardware, software, and logic work together naturally?

→ Or does it feel like a collection of disconnected components, or an overpowered setup doing too little?

  • Innovation or standout traits

Is there something clever, creative, or unusually well-executed?

→ This could be a novel general approach or an elegant solution to a specific problem.

Arena fight

If the car manages to reach the end point of its route with less than 10 points in penalties (penalties are described in the Technical Run section), it will receive the following points:

  • Old teams, +10 points.

  • New teams +20 points.

If instead the car does not manage to reach the finish, the points are given as follows:
  • Old teams -20 points.

  • New teams -10 points.

If a team has a member that attended any of the previous editions, it will be considered as “old” (either if he/she was a member and now is a mentor).

Prizes

First place:

The winner of the finals will receive a prize of 5000 Euros.

Second place:

The second-place team will be awarded 4000 Euros.

Third place:

The third-place team will be awarded 3000 Euros.

Teams will have a ‘like’ button on their team page on the competition website.

The team with the most likes will receive this award. Voting will conclude before the first team enters the track in the Finals.

Marketing award:

This award goes to the team with the most impressive presence on social media platforms.

Finalists:

All finalist teams will get to keep the model vehicle used in the competition.

Aditional aspects for the winning team

The team must return the code and the winning platform to the organizers, together with guidelines on how to start the provided vehicle.

The team will get in exchange an “empty” vehicle, similar with the same one it received at the start of the challenge.
